A
broad definition of Competitor Intelligence is the action of
gathering, analysing, and applying information about
products, customers, and competitors for the short term and
long term planning needs of an organisation. Competitor
Intelligence is both a process and a product and is more
than just Competitor Analysis. The process of collecting,
storing and analysing information about the competitive
arena results in the actionable output of intelligence
ascertained by the needs prescribed by an organisation. It
should not be confused with Industrial Espionage, which is
the unethical and usually illegal means of acquiring
competitor information.
Competitive Intelligence is an essential requirement in
every industry where there is a constant requirement for
specific and up to date intelligence. This information,
when accurately collated and analysed, can prove a crucial
tool for decision makers, whether they are formulating long
term corporate strategies, developing new products or
services, or considering potential alliances or
acquisitions. In the realm of Competitor Intelligence, the
problems faced by our clients are always unique, so our
approach is always tailored to their specific requirements
and objectives.
We
use methods favoured by intelligence agencies worldwide to
obtain information pertinent to the needs of our clients.
In all instances, we are able to complement our tailored
involvement with extensive in-house research capabilities
incorporating both our own bespoke systems and national and
international databases.
